Your file, in and out
- Open GEDCOM 5.5.1 and 7.0 files and GEDZIP (
.gdz) files with photos. Export in the same version, as text only (.ged) or with photos (.gdz). - Information RootKeep does not show (notes, sources, custom tags) is kept in place and written back unchanged. Details and test results: GEDCOM compatibility.

How are they related?
The relationship calculator finds the nearest common ancestors and names the link in your language, with the path step by step. It knows distinctions many languages make: Turkish amca/dayı and hala/teyze, Polish stryj/wuj, German Großonkel and Schwippschwager, Spanish concuñado. When a language has no single word, it says so instead of inventing one.
Free and Pro
Free, with no ads: everything up to 150 people, and GEDCOM import, viewing, editing and export for any tree size. A 2,000-person file opens in the free version; only adding new people stops at 150. Pro, monthly or as a one-time lifetime purchase, adds more than 150 people, PDF charts and reports, photos with face cropping, the relationship calculator, automatic backups and an app lock using your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
Backups
Before every import that replaces your tree, RootKeep saves a backup of the current tree. With Pro it also keeps an automatic daily backup when the tree changed (the last 7). Backups stay on the phone: they help after a wrong import or deletion, not if the phone is lost. To keep a copy elsewhere, export a GEDCOM or GEDZIP file to your computer, e-mail or cloud drive.
What it is not
RootKeep does not search historical records, does not do DNA matching and does not sync between devices or people. It is your own tree on your own phone.
