Gradenest (“the app”) is a gradebook for teachers. It has no user accounts and no server of its own. This policy explains what stays on your device and the little that leaves it.
In short
- Student names, grades, attendance, notes, classes and your settings are stored only on your device, in an encrypted database. We never receive them.
- The app does not collect usage statistics or crash reports and contains no analytics or advertising SDK.
- If you buy Pro, Google Play handles the payment and RevenueCat checks the purchase. No student data is involved.
- No advertising, no advertising ID, no selling or sharing of data.

Data stored on your device
Everything you enter — school years and terms, classes, student names and numbers, grades, attendance, notes on behaviour and parent meetings, grading scales you edited — and your settings are saved in the app’s private storage, in a database encrypted with ChaCha20-Poly1305. The encryption key is kept in the Android Keystore. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are turned off for this app, so this data is not copied to Google Drive.
This data leaves your device only when you share it: for example when you share a CSV or PDF export or a backup file through the system share menu. Where it goes then is your choice, and the receiving app’s or service’s privacy policy applies. Backup files are encrypted with a password you choose; we cannot open them.
When you use the app for your students, you decide what is entered and you are responsible for it under the rules of your school and country. We only provide the software and never have access to the data.
Permissions

The app does not use the camera, microphone, location, contacts or storage permissions. Class lists and backup files are opened through the system file picker, which only gives the app the file you pick.
Purchases (Google Play and RevenueCat)
Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Google Play; we never see your payment card or Google account details. The app uses RevenueCat, Inc. to verify purchases and restore them on a new phone. RevenueCat receives a random app user identifier, the purchase token and product, price, currency and country/store, and basic device information (such as operating system and app version), and keeps purchase records as needed to provide the service and for accounting. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Purchase verification: performance of the contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Student data is processed only on your device under your control; we do not process it. RevenueCat and Google may process purchase data in the United States; they rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Deleting your data
- Delete students, grades, notes and classes in the app. Deleting a class deletes everything in it.
- Uninstalling the app, or Android Settings → Apps → Gradenest → Storage → Clear data, deletes everything the app stored, including the encryption key. Backup files and exports you saved stay where you put them.
- There is no account to delete. For purchase records held by RevenueCat, see Delete your data.
Children
The app is a tool for teachers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or US state privacy laws) you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because we do not hold the data you enter and have no accounts, most of these rights are exercised directly in the app. For anything else write to support@plainwharf.com.
Changes
We will update this page when the app’s data handling changes and show the new date above. If a future version sends any data from your device (for example optional usage statistics), it will be described here before that version is released and, where required, will ask for your consent first. Student names, grades and notes will never be sent.
